A $4000 treadmill is in the pipeline for fitness start-up Peloton.

Its track is unlike other treadmills that essentially pauses when weight is applied to it. Instead, its running board uses a series of slats made of exotic materials on ball bearings that help the user achieve a more fluid running motion which makes it easier for the runner to attain a better running form.

Its user interface is also top-notch using two big knobs instead of small buttons making it easier to interact with the device while in usage. It is also equipped with surround sound speakers and a 32-inch screen.

However, the premium hardware is not where most of the purchase price is invested on. Peloton spent tens of millions of dollars in content creation that only buyers of its hardware can access. They’ve created an appealing experience with all the bells and whistles such as celebrity ambassadors and top-notch retail locations.

The content is focused on delivering a personalized training regimen accessible at any time of the day. It connects the user to a personal trainer to a studio in Manhattan who then crafts a workout program according to the user’s specifications.

While the Peloton Tread is mainly a treadmill, half of the program will be spent off the device says Peloton CEO, John Foley. Instead, the trainers, through a 32-inch monitor on the treadmill, would prescribe and demonstrate various exercises in between runs to achieve a full-body workout without going to have to go out of the house.
