Michael Saylor Predicts a $280 Trillion Market Cap for Bitcoin

Michael Saylor, founder of business intelligence company MicroStrategy and outspoken crypto enthusiast, shared a bold prediction for Bitcoin during a recent appearance at the Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville, Tennessee. According to Saylor, the world’s most valuable cryptocurrency will have a market capitalization of $280 trillion by 2045.

Saylor argues that Bitcoin has much more staying power than other traditional assets, including gold and art. For him, these traditional assets are susceptible to events like wars and natural catastrophes that bring their value down, while Bitcoin is poised for longevity and will remain unaffected by outside factors.

Saylor predicts that the value of a single Bitcoin could reach $13 million in the next two decades. His bullish scenario includes a price of $49 million, which would account for 22% of global wealth. For comparison, Bitcoin currently has a value of $68K with a market cap of $1.3 trillion.

During the pandemic, Saylor turned to investing in cryptocurrency as an inflation hedge and alternative to holding cash, positioning MicroStrategy as the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin in the world. Despite the fact that Saylor stepped down as the company’s CEO in 2022, MicroStrategy continued its strategy of investing in Bitcoin.

MicroStrategy recently added 12,000 tokens to its portfolio and currently owns 226,331 Bitcoin worth approximately $15 billion.
