S&P 500 Heads Toward Record as Stocks Close for the Week

New York stocks ended the week mixed at Friday’s close, however, the benchmark S&P 500 rose back toward the territory of its record high of 4,796.56 as it wrapped up the week with a win.

The S&P 500 rose 0.1% on Friday, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average slumped by 0.3%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite remained relatively unchanged, hovering around the flatline. By rising, the S&P 500 was able to reverse its tough start to 2024, heading back towards its nine-week winning streak which closed out 2023.

Major Wall Street lenders released their fourth-quarter earnings this week, with Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, and Wells Fargo all posting decent results. Airline stocks were battered, however, with United Airlines slumping by over 10% while American Airlines and Delta both sunk by over 9%.
