EV Maker DeLorean Slashes its Reservation Slots to 4,000, Will Set Up an Exchange

In 2022, the iconic carmaker DeLorean unveiled plans to resurrect its production and reinvent itself as an electric car company. However, those plans are not going as planned.

After the initial announcement, DeLorean planned to provide 9,351 reservation slots for interested buyers. But according to a press release over the weekend, there will now only be 4,000 reservation slots available. The decision was made due to “supply-chain bottlenecks” the company faced in producing its first EV model Alpha5.

The first Alpha5 is expected to arrive in 2024, with DeLorean setting a deadline of five years to build all 4,000 units. Currently, the reservation slot can be obtained for $2,500, with this price set to increase by $500 for every 500 slots that are acquired.

As part of their sale strategy, DeLorean will also set up an exchange on which the customers will be able to trade their reservation slots. Upon purchasing the reservation slot, a buyer will be assigned a random slot number and receive an NFT of the vehicle.

If a buyer changes their mind about owning Alpha5, they will be able to offer the reservation slot in exchange for a price they determine. This will allow another person that badly wants the car to get an opportunity to own one by paying a bit extra.
