EV Maker BYD Planning New Plant in Karachi

Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker BYD is planning to open a new manufacturing plant in Karachi, Pakistan, marking its entry into the country. Through a partnership with Mega Motors, BYD plans to sell three of its EV models in Pakistan.

“Our entry into the Pakistani market is not just about bringing advanced vehicles to consumers,” BYD general manager for Asia Pacific Liu Xueliang stated. “It’s about driving a broader vision of environmental responsibility and technological innovation.”

In addition to the new manufacturing plant, BYD is also set to open three flagship stores across the country in Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore. Hubco Chief Executive Kamran Kamal described the decision to open the new plant in Karachi as a “landmark investment,” adding that it will be the first NEV assembly plant in Pakistan. Should construction be completed on schedule, the plant is expected to commence operations in 2026.
